I'm Dean Cain and this is "Masters of Illusion."

making us question the very fabric of reality.

It's an experience that captivates, surprises,

and hopefully leaves us wanting more.

And tonight, we've got a lineup of illusions

that will leave you spelled out-

- [Trino] (indistinct) Dean.

- Trino, ladies and gentlemen, outstanding.

We're opening the show.

- Yeah, Dean.

It's a brand new season.

I wanted to get you a special gift

for hosting the show for these years.

- Ah, that's nice. - Check this out, Dean.

Look right here.

(Trino puffs) (gentle playful music)

- [Dean] Car. - [Trino] For you.

- [Dean] A new car. - [Trino] Unbelievable?

- Believe it.

Ah, he's watched my other shows, that's good.

Trino, is there a real one of these back, no?

(audience laughing)

Well, let's get ready to step into the extraordinary.

(audience cheering)

Tonight's performer is not only an accomplished magician

but a creator and a teacher of magic.

(upbeat music) (audience cheering)

- The greatest coincidence

I ever heard happened in the UK in a small town.

It evolved a little girl called Laura Buxton.

She was celebrating her 10th birthday.

And to honor the occasion, she took a blue balloon

and wrote her name on it, "Laura Buxton."

She also wrote her age, "10 years old,"

and then she put her parents' phone number on the balloon.

And then, without giving a thought to the environment,

she let the balloon go and it floated

through the air and traveled 140 miles

and landed in another small town in the UK.

That's not the coincidence.

It gets weirder.

You see, another little girl picked up that balloon.

That little girl was called Laura Buxton.

But it gets weirder

because that Laura Buxton was also 10 years old.

10-year-old Laura Buxton

had found 10-year-old Laura Buxton's balloon.

This freaked out Laura Buxton's parents.

So they called the other Laura Buxton's parents

and they talked,

and it turned out there was some crazy similarities.

Both Laura Buxtons had short blonde hair.

Both of them were champion swimmers.

And this one weirds me out,

they both had the same two pets,

a black Labrador and a brown hamster.

And it made me think.

Coincidences like this probably happen all the time,

we just don't have enough information to recognize them.

So I thought we could create our own coincidence right here.

So we need a name.

We're not gonna use Laura

because we've already used that.

So we need another name.

Would you mind just choosing any name you like.

- Jamie. - Jamie. Fantastic.

And we need an age.

Laura Buxton was 10, but Jamie can be any age.

How old should Jamie be?

- [Audience Member] 30.

- 30. Jamie is 30 years old.

And we need somewhere for Jamie to be from.

Laura was from the UK,

but where should 30-year-old Jamie be from?

- China. - China, perfect Chinese name.

(audience laughing)

So we have Jamie, 30 years old from China.

That is an amazing coincidence.

I mean it is, we just don't have enough information

to recognize it yet.

At least, you guys don't.

But I do, because over here is a little red gift bag

that has been on stage the whole time,

and I've been nowhere near it.

But I wanna show you what is inside.

A blue helium balloon, just like Laura Buxton.

But there's a label on the balloon

and it says something interesting.

You said, any name in the world,

the name you said was Jamie.

Would you tell me what is written on that label?

- Jamie. - [Andi] It's Jamie.

And Jamie was 30 years old.

You could have said any age, but you went for 30.

Could you tell me what age is written on that label?

- [Audience Member] 30. - [Andi] It says 30.

And you could have named any country,

but you named China.

What does it say on the label?

(audience laughing)

That is an amazing coincide.

(audience cheering)

(effect booms)

- [Dean] Next, an explosive phone call you don't wanna miss.

- We're actually going to be able

to capture the cell phone call inside

of that plexiglass chamber.

- [Dean] Mae Wyn has a steamy act

that will leave you speechless.

Mind to mind, mentalist magic at its finest.

- [James] Anything you have with you,

Marina will try to describe what those items are.

- [Dean] A poetic performance

that will make your heart fluttering.

Giddy-up, Murray Sawchuck's wrangling will rope you in.

- Great trick, once they get to it.

(audience laughing)

- [Dean] Jeki Yoo brings fast hands and quick wits

in this mind scrambling, manipulate.

- That means it's not here, right?

But, it's right here.

- Strap yourself in assistance revenge

on Greg Frewin. Stay tuned.

(fire booms) (upbeat rock music)

(upbeat rock music) (audience cheering)

(effect booms)

(audience clapping)

Prepare to be entertained

by a magician who brings energy, charm,

and cutting edge illusions to the stage.

His fast-paced style and ability

to connect with audiences makes him one

of the most exciting performers in magic today.

Let's give a warm welcome to Joel Meyers.

(audience cheers)

- What is up you guys?

So Arthur C. Clark once said

that any advanced technology

is indistinguishable from magic.

That means a hundred years ago,

our cell phones would've gotten us burned at the stake.

Tonight, we're gonna try and do something

with our cell phone that you've never seen before

and you'll never see again.

In order for this to work, I need to borrow two people.

They need to know each other,

meaning you have to have each other's cell phone numbers.

So if that's you, raise your hand.

We need a couple of people.

We got these two ladies here.

You guys would be great.

What's your names?

- Lauren. - [Joel] And?

- Jillian. - Lauren and Jillian.

Everybody, give Lauren and Jillian a big hand

as they come on stage.

Come join us on stage, guys, come on.

Lauren, bring your cell phones.

Perfect. Come on up.

How are you? You're Lauren.

Lauren, you're gonna come right over here.

Right over here.

Jillian, nice to meet you, Jillian.

Come right over this way if you don't mind.

Lovely. Look at that spin.

That was beautiful. (audience laughing)

Alright, Lauren and Jillian, here's the deal.

Over here, I've got a little plexiglass chamber, okay?

This plexiglass chamber

was specially designed to where we're actually going

to be able to capture the cell phone call inside

of that plexiglass chamber.

I'll explain a little bit more in a second.

But here's the deal.

Lauren, you are going to be calling Jillian

in just a second.

So Jillian, you're gonna hold your cell phone

in your left hand the entire time.

And then Lauren, you're gonna be calling her.

So get ready to call her.

Once I tell you to call her,

you're gonna hold the phone out like that

so the audience and the camera can see it

that you're making the phone call.

Whenever you make the phone call,

you're gonna do it right here.

So it's going through the plexiglass chamber

to her cell phone. Make sense?

Something else that's really important

is I've got a glass pitcher inside the plexiglass chamber.

The reason why the glass pitcher is here

is because that cylindrical object makes it

to where Jillian over here is gonna be able to actually,

it goes different every time.

She might actually feel the effects of the phone call.

It might make the pitcher vibrate a little bit.

She might see light ricocheting through the pitcher.

We might all see the light ricocheting through the pitcher.

Here's the deal, Jillian, you're gonna hold

onto this in your right hand just like I'm doing.

Perfect, hold it nice and tight in your right hand.

Nice, tight all the way. Perfect.

So Jillian, you're gonna lower that

into this little slot right here.

Okay? Go ahead.

Go ahead and lower it down.

Nicely done, Jillian. Great job.

You're gonna rest your hand right there.

Keep it kinda level though.

The pitcher kinda level.

Perfect, Jillian, nicely done.

Hold your cell phone right there.

Turn it around so everybody can see.

Nobody's gonna notice your crack screen, no worry.

(audience laughing)

Alright, here's the deal.

Lauren, in just a second,

you're gonna start calling Jillian.

Remember, whenever you do that, face the phone out,

but hold it kinda like right here so that she can see

and everybody can see that the phone call is going through.

Remember, sometimes you can see light,

sometimes you're gonna feel the vibrations.

If that happens, just kinda nod

so we're aware that you're feeling the vibrations.

Don't fake anything.

Tell us if you're really feeling something,

tell us if you're really seeing something.

Just kinda nod so that we're aware, okay?

Jillian and Lauren, you ready?

Here we go. Ready?

Lauren, call Jillian's phone.

Do it now. Call the phone.

Call her phone right now.

Is the call going through call?

Oh, is it going through?

It's going through?

Okay, keep calling, keep calling, keep calling.

Alright, keep calling.

Okay, anything?

Jillian, anything?

- No. - Nothing. Okay.

It's okay. Hang up.

Try it again, we're gonna try it again.

It's okay. It's okay.

Doesn't always work the first time.

We're gonna try it again.

It's all good. We got this.

Try one more time.

Lauren, we're gonna try one more time.

Ready? Call.

Turn the phone around so everybody can see

the phone call going through.

All right, keep calling.

Keep calling, keep calling, keep calling.

Okay. I can see.

Wait a second. I can see it.

I can see it.

There's some light happening.

I can see it, and I can see it, and I can see it.

(glass crashing) (audience screaming)

How about we give these guys a big hand, come on.

Lauren and Jillian. (upbeat techno music)

Drop it down, no drop it under there.

Right, keep going.

Keep it up for Lauren and Jillian, guys, come on.

Nicely done. Have a seat.

Well done. Come on.

(audience clapping)

- She travels around the globe.

Amazing audiences along the way,

and tonight she's here with us.

Please welcome the incredible My Uyen.

(audience cheers)

(brooding spirited music)

Next, mind to mind mentalist magic at its finest.

- [James] Anything you have with you,

Marina will try to describe what those items are.

- [Dean] A poetic performance

that will make your heart flutter.

Giddy-up, Murray Sawchuck's wrangling will rope you in.

- It's a great trick, once I get to it.

- [Dean] Jeki Yoo brings fast hands

and quick wits in this mind scrambling manipulation.

But it's right here.

- Strap yourself in assistance revenge

on Greg Frewin. Stay tuned.

(fire booms)

(upbeat energetic music) (audience cheering)

(upbeat energetic music continues)

(audience cheering)

(fire whooshing)

Tonight's performers are more than just magicians,

they are mind readers, illusionists,

and masters of the impossible.

Please welcome the awe inspiring, Mind 2 Mind.

(audience cheering)

- [James] Good evening. - [Marina] Good evening.

(gentle whimsical music)

- The one thing that connects us all

is the ability to communicate.

Animals can communicate in ways

that we find almost supernatural.

(rousing orchestral music)

Humans have become masters of verbal communication,

but even when we encounter an unknown language,

all we hear is noise.

(Marina speaks in foreign language)

- So perhaps it's not surprising to learn

that 93% of human communication is nonverbal.

If it's not what we're saying, what could this 93% be?

(dramatic pulsating music)

Please raise your hand now,

if you consider yourself to be a skeptic.

Where are the skeptics?

Quite a few of you. Goodness me.

Your hand went up very quickly.

Could you stand up for me for a second, please?

Ladies and gentlemen,

please observe a skeptic in his natural habitat

about to watch some mind video.

Give him a huge round of applause

as he joins us on stage.

Come on up. (audience clapping)

Hey man, how you doing?

What's your name?

- Justin. - Lovely to meet you, Justin.

This is Marina.

- Nice to meet you, Justin.

- Who did you come here with tonight, Justin?

- [Justin] Tatiana. - [James] Hello.

Is Justin always skeptical?

Yeah? It sounds like a nightmare,

but you're gonna be perfect for this.

Justin, can you just make sure

that Marina isn't wearing any secret listening devices?

Nothing's hidden. Just have a check.

Once you're done, you can stand behind Marina.

(whimsical choral music)

We all good?

Can you cover Marina's eyes

with your hands like this in such a way

that you can feel that her eyelids are closed

under your fingertips?

Please keep your hands there

until I tell you to remove them, Justin.

That's very important.

In the past, when we've performed what we're about

to show you, we've been accused of using secret electronics

to communicate with each other.

We offer a $100,000 reward to anyone that can prove we do,

and we say that simply because we don't.

But Justin, you're our skeptic.

Keep your hands there, okay?

You are keeping us honest.

It's time for everyone here to get involved.

Please start pulling random items from your pockets,

purses, handbags, literally anything you have with you.

Marina will try to describe what those items are.

(ambient choral music)

Will you go for this?

- James, I like this first item.

I feel like there's something on my lips.

Could it be a lip balm.

- That's a lip balm.

Nice, easy start.

Thank you so much for your help.

Can you tell us what this is next?

- [Marina] The next item I believe could be glasses.

Wait, they are sunglasses to be specific.

- Please tell me the color.

- [Marina] They're a nice and brown color.

- Outstanding, please tell me the brand.

- Hmm, is it Tom Ford?

- [James] Are these Tom Ford sunglasses?

- [Audience Member] Yeah.

- [Marina] Thank you.

(audience clapping)

- Nice. See what this is?

- [Marina] Now, I can definitely see a reflection.

That is a mirror you're looking at.

- That's right, will you see what this is?

- [Marina] Okay, wait, is that a comb?

- Well done. The color?

- [Marina] It's a pink comb.

- That's great. Very good.

Be specific about this.

- [Marina] I think I can almost see,

wait, is that a specific character you're looking at?

- Well done.

- [Marina] It's nice and kind of pinkish.

Could it be, wait, could it be Hello Kitty?

- [James] Hello Kitty. Absolutely.

Thank you for help. - [Marina] Thank you. So cute.

(audience clapping)

- Okay, see what this is?

- [Marina] Now, there is something quite beautiful

you're looking at. - Go on.

- [Marina] I feel like it could be maybe a piece of jewelry,

maybe a bracelet. - [James] Yes.

- And I think it's made of,

wait, are those cute little beads?

- Cool. Color? - I definitely can see purple.

- Thank you for your help. - [Marina] Thank you.

(audience clapping)

- [James] Some very interesting items here.

Okay. See what this is.

- [Marina] James, before I, wait, you're distracted.

I feel like you're looking at someone.

I can see black and I can see white.

It's a black and white dress and really beautiful hair.

Yes, it's a beautiful lady with, wait, are those tattoos?

You are looking at something like a cherry.

And is that Alice in Wonderland?

- It is, I was looking at the tattoos.

- James, now please look back at the object

so I can, okay. (audience laughing)

I believe you're looking at another piece of jewelry.

- [James] Yes.

- [Marina] This time I have a feeling

that it could be a necklace.

- [James] Go on.

- [Marina] I think it's not just a necklace,

it could be actually a locket.

- [James] Good, describe the locket.

- [Marina] I can see a heart shape, James.

- [James] Correct. Anything else?

- Yes, it's made of beautiful white metal.

Almost like white gold.

- Beautiful, thank you so much for your help.

(audience clapping)

Please tell me what this is now.

- The next item, you know, I'm trying to focus on one thing.

It has a shape of a phone, but I'm focusing on a phone case.

- Well done. Correct.

Okay. Be specific.

- Wait, if I try to describe it, I can almost see an animal.

- [James] Go on.

- And I think it could be maybe a bear.

- That is a bear phone case. - [Marina] Thank you.

(audience clapping)

(brooding ambient music)

- [James] Marina.

- Now guys, if you all stay silent just for a second,

I can almost hear the music coming out

of those headphones you're focusing on.

They are, they're wireless.

- [James] Correct.

- And wait, are they Beats by Dre, Dr. Dre?

- Dre, right there. Thank you so much.

- [Marina] Thank you. (audience clapping)

Very nice. (audience clapping)

- [James] Okay, see what this is.

- More jewelry, I believe, James.

- [James] Yes. - This time.

Yes, that's another necklace.

(audience clapping)

And I think, wow, it's so beautiful.

I feel like it's made of beautiful pearls.

- [James] Exactly, that whole necklace.

Thank you. - [Marina] Thank you.

(audience clapping)

- [James] Oh, very good. See what this is.

- [Marina] Oh, lots of information, James.

Lots of personal information.

I think it could be somebody's license,

maybe a driving's license.

- Wonderful. Cool.

Tell me something about this person.

- I think I can tell you something quite specific

about this person and you may not even know it yourself.

I think I can tell you a day of the week,

the specific day of the week that you were born on.

- [James] Right. - I definitely have a feeling

that you were born on a Sunday.

- [James] Do you know?

- Yeah. (laughing) - It was a Sunday?

- Sunday. (audience clapping)

Quite well, well done.

- Thank you so much, guys.

Now, if I go straight to the specific date.

Wait, is it December?

Is it December 17th?

Wait, and the year is 1989?

- [James] Is that exactly right?

Come on guys. - Yeah!

(audience clapping)

- Can you tell me what this is?

- Okay, James, this is definitely a phone.

If I'm not mistaken, it could be an iPhone.

- Quite right. Correct.

Tell me something about the iPhone.

- Let's try something with this phone.

Hold it face down on your palm.

And now, please gently touch the back.

And as you do that, I will try to sense

the remaining battery percentage on this phone.

And I have a feeling that this phone

is charged to either 83, no, 84% battery at this moment.

- Marina's saying 84%.

Can you check what is it?

Is it exactly 84?

(audience member laughing)

- Thank you. Thank you. (audience clapping)

Thank you so much, Justin.

Thank you for your help. (audience clapping)

How's my makeup?

It still good? Yeah. (laughing)

Thank you. - Thank you so much.

Thank you for keeping us honest.

(James speaks in foreign language)

Thank you everyone, I'm James.

- And I'm Marina.

- We are Mind 2 Mind.

Thank you very much.

Thank you. Thank you. (audience cheers)

(fire booms)

that will make your heart flutter.

Giddy-up, Murray Sawchuck's wrangling will rope you in.

How you guys doing?

It's so important as a magician

that you know I have nothing in my sleeves.

Nothing, (chuckles) sorry.

Nothing like Live TV. (audience laughing)

Just let me, sorry.

Sorry about that. (audience laughing)

Perfect. So I was gonna do

the rope from the impossible location just for you guys.

The rope from the impossible location, just for you guys.

Whatever you, lemme just,

I'll just get rid of this for a second

'cause not a fan of rope tricks, anyway.

I was just gonna hang this.

And what's your name?

We are gonna play a simple game.

Do you know what this is?

- That's a cup.

- Yeah, it's a cup.

And inside, do you know what this is?

- Is that an egg?

- Yeah, it looks like an egg.

And inside this egg, there's a yellow ball, right?

Is there anything inside?

- No. - Nothing inside.

And just yellow bowl and a cup.

I call this this egg-shaped cup.

We are gonna use these two.

Alright, let's do it.

I put the ball here and I shake it.

And now, you just guess where the ball is.

In my hand or under the egg.

50/50, where the ball is?

- I must say in the egg.

- Egg. Yeah, it's right here.

It's simple game, right?

- Yeah. - Okay, let's do this again.

I put the ball here and I shake it.

Alright. Now where the ball is,

in my hand or under the egg?

- Hand. - In my hand?

But actually, see.

That means it's not here, right?

But it's right here, see? (audience laughing)

Oh, my. Let's do this again.

I put the ball here and I shake it.

This time I'll give you a hint.

Where the ball is?

- That's not a hint. - Yeah?

It's in the egg, you see?

Actually, this ball has special power.

If I drop the ball like this, it goes inside.

You see that?

If I drop the ball, it pass through the egg,

and it pass through the egg.

And the even more surprising thing is that, you see that?

- Yeah. - Nothing happened.

But look, see, the ball pass through the table.
