you know, the murderer at the moment

and I was wondering if I could please

perhaps, maybe interview you?

I understand that you are,

So, you're here in London teaching criminology at

a university, is that correct?

- Yeah. - [Jason] Yeah, okay.

So can you tell us a bit

of your background, in the States, in Georgia?

Yeah, I spent 12 years at the FBI, grew up in Georgia,

joined Atlanta, then went to Virginia, in the camp.

Started out just like a normal cadet,

but then specialized in homicides

and then kind of honed in
on serial killers after that so...

(cars driving)

to interview you about previous cases,

or hypothetically ask you some questions on camera?

Okay so you're aware that there's been a string

of murders at the moment and that we

potentially have a serial killer
on our hands at the moment.

I understand you're not involved in the case,

you're not working with the

metropolitan police at the moment, have you,

how, how does profiling work?

Can you come up with a profile on the spot?

From reading the newspapers or anything like that?

Do you have any sort of idea
of who this person might be?

Well, I try not spend too much time on, it's kind

of a darker time in my past,

but there are certain aspects of the profile

that are pretty obvious,
and they typically start with

violence at a young age,

propensity to play with fire

and bedwetting past a kind of a normal age.

[Jason] Sorry did you say bedwetting?

Yeah.

[Jason] Wow, that's quite interesting, isn't it, Richard?

[Richard] Interesting.

After that, you know, typically they, you know,

it's a hunting game to these guys, you know.

So they like to stalk their victims,

typically will maybe befriend them.

Generally they're charismatic,
have a narcissistic tendency,

a psychotic background, typically have

little to no empathy.

Toy with the victims before they kill them.

Take trophies, so to relive it,

So, you know, if I were to build a profile on, you know,

what I have seen,

I would start there.

I'd start on kind of what the victim's profiles are

usually there's a geographic area that

the serial killer will focus on.

Like a cat, you know, patrol an area, stay within

the area that they know so
that they can understand it,

so they can rehearse the crime.

So I'd start there, look at

where the killings sit on the map.

There's usually a certain profile of the victim.

So I look at profile tendencies

and the victims that'll give you some indication,

of who might be next.

And then there's usually a modus operandi,

although that tends to evolve over time as they

kind of perfect their methods.

So I'd look for if there was a modus operandi,

commonalities between the victims.

So I'd start there, so that's kind of

how I build the profile but not having access

to the evidence is pretty difficult

to see exactly how I could do it in an accurate one,

but that's where I would start.

(box tearing)

[Richard] Well, I didn't know if you were

actually gonna like it.

[Jason] How did it make you feel to see the crime scene?

Not really, but, no.

Well, I think the key is staying in busy areas.

You, you can then see all sorts of people around here

and stay vigilant.

I, at night I tend to find somewhere,

usually in a park where there's no one around

but yeah, I think the key is just stay vigilant.

I tend to not really sleep munch at night

Hmm stay in groups.

It's hard 'cause I mean, a serial kid is gonna be,

like I said, they're charismatic,

they're gonna befriend you.

They've got, they've spent an entire life

emulating people's emotions.

So, it's very difficult for the average person to tell.

Typically good looking.

I would say do your best to vet someone,

I mean you've got social media that should help,

try to meet their friends
before you go home with them.

Yeah, yeah I mean, obviously it's a way to groom people,

and build an initial relationship with them but,

any media is is ultimately,

some way somebody can get to you.

and these are strange dreams
that I've been having where

and I had these crazy dreams,

where I almost linger outside your office,

and I know it means something to me,

I know this is so important.

This personally, I linger outside, I'm in the area

of your place and

I basically, for some main reason,

I start, just following women,

real women around,

and you know, I'm this person who,

finds great purpose and,

is finding a spiritual path while by

actually following this woman around here,

and killing them, that killed the person in my dream.

Are these, are these women, are these people,

these women that you know? - [Richard] They're strangers.

And, I'm trying to work out what

this means to me because it's on my way to you.

This is one girl, right outside your office.

And I knew that I was coming to you,

but then I found this girl,

brown hair, and

she was actually taking two kids into the building,

and then she came back out

and, you know,

she had this wonderful,

colorful dress on and she looked happy

and she was...

From that moment, I was no longer coming to see you

and I left,

and I began to question, what's controlling me?

I actually followed this woman down,

around the area to the river where she was going.

Went down there and basically,

I mean, I choked this girl in this dream.

I choked her.

And...

but it didn't end there.

This dream was so powerful,

and I looked into her eyes and I knew

that this was a moment for us that,

that she was then going on to her, to the next level

and actually hit her with a hammer,

three to four times,

in the center of her face.

I mean, she was almost unrecognizable,

and...

I left her there.

all of the scenes as far as I'm,

the crime scenes as far as I'm aware.
