This is Deinonychus antirrhopus.

The name means "terrible claw. "

He has sickle-like claws on his hind feet that he uses to slash his prey.

This bird-like dinosaur is 1 0 feet long and lightly built to move quickly.

He has a good-sized brain and large keen eyes...

...that make this species a clever pack hunter.

Deinonychus lived during the mid-Cretaceous period...

...which was about a hundred million years ago.

From what we can tell from the fossils...

...he was a highly intelligent, ferocious, warm-blooded carnivore.

Warm-blooded? I thought all dinosaurs were cold-blooded...

-... like a snake or lizard. -That's old thinking.

But a few scientists have suggested a different newer theory...

...I tend to go agree with.

A snake isn't active like a dinosaur.

Any active creature's temperature generally runs constant and warm.

But a large cold-blooded reptile would be too inactive to chase down its prey.

However, scientists still can't agree on this issue.

There's the forest.

It's unique. I've never seen one quite like it.

Nor have I, but I think it's one of the greatest finds I've ever made.

I didn't think there was untouched wilderness left on this planet.

It is my theory that the steep cliffs surrounding it...

I liken the effect to being inside a time capsule.

We have discovered several creatures that we refer to as living fossils.

I presume the most significant is Deinonychus.

...coloured the skies...

...while tourists gathered to see statues of the Greek gods.

Suddenly, one of the statues started to come to life!

And reports of winged chariots flying through the clouds reached our ears.

We quickly forgot all about dinosaurs...

...and headed toward the land of mythology.
