These things take a little time.

- They advertise this
place on television

where they check your credit in

Dave got his car,

I made him a certain deal.

And I think it's only fair I

- Well, I told
Dave that he'd earn

half the money for his car,
I'd put up the other half.

- Well, it's kind of a
shock, but it's a deal.

- Well, it's just a thought.

great owning my own car

- Well, it's pretty bad.

Besides, I didn't like
the idea the guy just

scratching up my
fender and driving off.

get the guy in trouble?

- Well, I'm not going to
make a big deal out of it.

irresponsible driver,

but when I was

I parked my car in front

the truck was gone

Pete's car yesterday.

That's some horn he's
got on that, isn't it?

I told him not to blow it
inside the city limits.

You know, I'm kind
of proud of Pete, Oz.

He's been working hard to earn
the money to pay for that car.

I advanced it to him.

- Oh, that's swell.

That's the kind of spirit
I like to see in a kid.

- Over at Wilson's Flower Shop.

What's he doing there?

- Well, he drives
the delivery truck.

I got to hand it
to that kid, Oz.

He stuck to that job for
three months and worked hard.

And in fact, I think
he's in line for a raise.

you want to play

a little golf this afternoon.

A couple of my patients

happened while I was downtown.

I parked the car in front
of Wilson's delivery truck--

When I come out, there's
a scratch on my fender

and the truck was gone.

So I called up Mr Wilson
and told him about it.

And now Doc tells me his
boy Pete is the delivery

boy who drives the truck.

- Well, I wish you'd spoken to
me about it before you phoned.

- I'm sorry I phoned.

It really isn't
much of a scratch.

- I know it.

- What do you mean?

- I put it there yesterday.

I hit the garage door.

- Why didn't you
tell me about it?

- Well, you just said it
was practically nothing.

- Well, nevertheless, you
could have told me about it.

- I was hoping you
wouldn't notice it

before I could get it fixed.

- Do you realize the
embarrassing spot

you've put me in?

Gee, and the man was so
apologetic on the phone.

That's what makes it worse.

- Well, I didn't tell you
to make the phone call.

- Well, you didn't tell me you
put the scratch in the fender

either.

- Well, why don't you
call the man back again,

tell him what happened.

- Well, I'll do
better than that.

I'll go down and explain
to him personally.

- Pop, I got good news for you.

I got that scratch
off your fender.

I just rubbed it with a damp
cloth and it came right off.

a "boy wanted" sign

in the window when I walked by.

So I went in and got the job.

lot of deliveries.

- Why don't you try to

Now, I bought a lot of tools
from these people a couple

Well, his boy Pete is
looking for a part-time job

as a delivery boy.

He's a real good kid, very
reliable, and a careful driver.

had a delivery boy.

- I'm positive.

I remember taking the money

- I've been so rushed, I've
been taking out all the orders

Haven't had a

- Well, what about Ricky?

- Well, frankly, Pete's

experience than Rick has.

job a little while ago.

- Well, I don't know.

Mr. Wilson made him a
pretty good offer, I guess.

dozen of them myself.

What did happen exactly?

- Well, I was out
making my deliveries,

and when I got
back to the store,

there was an envelope
with a day's pay in it

and a note from Mr. Duggan

for Mr. Duggan.

- Mr. Duggan?

- Yes, you know, dear, the man

I thought I was
doing a good job.

me to keep spending

so he can afford a better car.
