All language subtitles for 38 - Implementing A Basic Shipping Rate English

So now that we know we want to implement a shipping rate of 295, let's have a look and see how we're

actually going to do that.

Now, before I get started, one thing I will say is that people often overcomplicate and get very confused

about shipping rates.

It really is very easy, if you like, to tie yourself up in knots.

So for this reason, over the years, I've developed a very simple system for shipping rates, which

I'm going to share with you now.

And a simple system has two major advantages.

One, you can understand it.

I think that's fairly clear.

But also to so can your customers.

Your customers are going to ask you questions about shipping.

And if you've got some massively complicated system involving all kinds of countries and weights and

goodness knows what else, it's going to be very, very difficult to get the message over.

But if it's nice and simple, then it's very, very straightforward to do.

Okay.

So first off, let's go down to the settings and go to shipping and delivery.

And we're going to focus on this section here.

Shipping and more specifically, general shipping rates.

So if you come over here now and click on Manage.

And then if you scroll down, let me try and put this on the screen completely.

So here we are.

If you scroll down, you have this, you have a shipping from and you have shipping to.

I think that's a fairly basic concept to grasp.

So first off, shipping from let's not forget we are drop shipping here.

We don't have our own warehouse, we don't have our own depot to ship from.

So this part really doesn't concern us.

So you don't have to worry about this.

So straightaway, things are an awful lot simpler.

So then all we need to do is to focus on this shipping to area.

And this is often where people start to overcomplicate things because what you can do is you can set

up any number of countries that you might be shipping to.

Now imagine you put in 100 countries all with kinds of different rules, right?

That's when the nightmare starts.

We are not going to do that.

In fact, we're going to keep it very, very much like it is here by default.

You'll notice that we have domestic and we also have rest of world.

Now, when you're just starting off in your dropshipping journey, I would strongly encourage you to

make your primary market or your domestic market as it is here, the United States, that is your biggest

and easiest market to get going in.

And then once you start building your business there and start to have proof of your model and start

making money, then that's the best time to start expanding into other areas.

So whatever you have here, you'll notice here I have Portugal.

You actually want to make your domestic market the United States, and we'll keep the rest of the world

as is.

So we'll just have the two zones.

So in order to change this and of course, if you're based in the United States at this point, you

don't need to do anything else.

It will already say us here, but for everybody else, we need to change this to United States.

So I hope that's clear.

So what we need to do is to go over here to these three little dots, go to edit zone.

I suggest you change the zone name from domestic to united.

States.

Okay.

Just to be clear, and then we want to make it the United States.

So in here, if I start typing United, you see United States here.

Now, just as in a little aside, I could make any zone with any number of different countries I want.

I just want to indicate the power of what's possible.

Something you might want to consider further on down the road, but not right now.

Okay.

Just keep it as the United States.

So click on this, then simply click on done.

Now as it comes back, this is a common mistake.

So I left it like this.

You will see that I still have Portugal in here, so you might still have your own country.

So we need to remove that.

So let's go back to edit zone.

In this case, I need to look for Portugal.

So let's look for Portugal.

You can see that it's checked on.

So now of course, I need to check it off and then I click on Done once again.

And now I have this.

This is what I want.

I have United States, right?

So one shipping zone, the United States, which is only the United States and the rest of the world.

I hope you see I hope you agree that it is a very nice, simple setup.

So with that done, the next thing I want to do is to set up rates within our zones.

So you can see here down below we have a rate, name, condition and price.

At the moment, by default we have one in here called standard.

Now what I'd like you to do is delete that, right?

So just simply go over here and click on delete next to that rate.

So now it says no rates.

Customers in this zone won't be able to complete checkout.

Okay, fine.

We need to add in some rates.

And to do that, all we need to do is to click on this add rate button.

Now, once again, Shopify, of course, is allowing for all kinds of businesses small and enormous.

So adding and creating rates has the possibility of becoming very complex.

We're not going to do that.

We're going to keep it very simple, and that's why we want to have this by default, set up your own

rates.

Then you see this rate name with the price.

But we want to come down here to add conditions.

Now, I want to draw your attention to this.

Okay.

Based on item weight is by default.

And then we have based on order price.

Now we're not concerned with weight.

Why will you remember the golden rules?

One of the things that we don't want to do is to ship heavy items because it costs us a lot to ship.

But you can also see now that it has the potential of making our shipping rates highly complicated.

So we don't need to worry about that.

So we can simply click on based on order price and now we need to fill in this form.

So let's come back to a rate name.

I'm going to give the rate name, a very original name of rate one, and I'm going to give it a price,

of course, of 295.

All right, then if I come down here to my based on order price, my minimum price, what I'm going

to do here is I'm going to leave this as zero and a maximum price 30.

So what does that mean?

That means that anybody who buys from my site any product between zero and $30 is going to pay, as

I previously stated, my $2 and 95 of shipping.

So with that out of the way, I can then click on Done.

So now you see it here, right?

One 0 to 30 and the price then we need to add in one more rate.

So this time click on add rate.

Again, just open up the conditions right name I'm going to call it, you guessed it, rate two and

this time I'm going to make the price 395.

And then based on order price, of course, minimum price at this time will be 30 and then we'll leave

the maximum price completely open.

So this time what that means is that anybody who spends over $30 on my site is going to be paying 395

in shipping.

So that's all done.

So let's click on Done Again, and that's it.

We don't need to do anything else.

What I've actually done here is I've created a system that covers every single eventuality.

I've got rate one from 0 to 30 and I've got rate to from anything over 30.

Now, you might think with that system that if a customer came along and ordered 100 products from my

site, that somehow I might lose out because my shipping supplier would charge me 100 times the normal

shipping rate in order to send it, when in reality, that's not actually what happens when somebody

buys that sort of quantity, which, let's face it, is going to be very rare.

What's going to happen is they're going to charge me a bit more than I'm going to charge me 100 times

more.

They might charge me 2 to 3 times more.

Let's not forget we're shipping to the same address.

So in every eventuality you are fully covered.

And also, I'd really like to point out you have a massive margin to play with.

Let's not forget we're buying it under ten.

We're selling at 30.

Almost everything we have there is profit.

We can absorb from time to time any issues that we might have with shipping.

So in 99.99% of cases, you literally have no problems here.

And in addition, you have a very simple system that you understand and you can very clearly describe

to your customers.

So now to complete the process, let's do the same thing for our rest of the world zone.

So here we're going to do exactly the same thing.

I'm going to start off by deleting what's already in there.

Then click on Add Rate.

We'll give it a name of a rate three.

We'll have a price of 295 at the conditions based on order price minimum price zero, maximum price

30.

Click on done.

Add in another rate.

This time we'll call it a rate whoops.

Rate four, we'll have a price of 395 and the conditions based on order price this time minimum price

of 30 and leave the maximum price with no limit and click on done.

So what we have now is that rate one and two are exactly the same as rate three and four.

So now what we have is shipping rates for every single possibility in the world.

Okay.

Basically on four lines, super simple, super easy to understand, super easy to convey to your customers.

So with that done, all we then need to do is to click on Save.

And that's it.

Nothing more to do when it comes to setting up shipping rates.

Now, later in the course, I'm going to show you what it looks like when the customer actually buys

a product from your site.

So I'll take you through the whole process of adding it to the cart and going through the checkout.

At that point, you're going to see the shipping rates in action, but until then, just know that you've

already got a fantastic system set up for every single eventuality.

Now having said that, just to finish off this lecture, there is one last thing that we need to check,

and it's over here on markets.

So if you click on markets, what you're now going to see are the two markets that you set up.

So we have the primary market, which is United States, and we have other markets which is international.

Okay, all good so far.

But what you will notice probably is not the case for absolutely everybody, but probably what you're

going to notice is that next to international is that it's inactive.

You want to make that active.

So in order to do that, all you need to do is to click over here on Manage and then click on the activate

button here at the top.

You'll then see that international has been activated and you're good to go.
