Okay.

Brilliant.

You've bought your Shopify plan and now you're looking at a page like this.

Now the next thing we need to do is to get ourselves set up with a domain, a proper professional looking

domain that properly represents our store.

So why do we need to do that?

What have we actually got at the moment?

Well, if I go back to my store, you might have noticed that my domain name is currently 9.338. my

Shopify dot com.

I think you'll agree that's not a very professional looking domain name.

What I want of course, is the dog address dot com.

So let's have a look and see how we can do that.

Now, there are two ways of setting up a domain for your store, and I'm going to show you both ways

so that you can make your own decision.

The first way is to head back to the Shopify admin.

Go down to your settings, way down the bottom left hand corner there.

Scroll down through the menu here until you see domains and click on that.

And this is where you see the two options.

You either have the option to buy a new domain directly from Shopify or connect an existing domain.

And I'm going to go through both of these.

So let's first of all have a look at the buy new domain.

So let's click on Buy New Domain.

And then you can see here it says, Enter the domain you want to buy.

We need to check to see if the domain I want is in fact available.

So what I'm looking for is a domain called the log.

Fedoras.

And then below here it's show me the results.

And you can see that the dogwood door is dot com is available for a cost of $14 per year, which is

a very typical domain fee.

Now.

I could therefore go ahead and simply click on this buy button and I would buy it from Shopify and now

my store would be sitting under the dog of Dora's Dotcom, and that would be great.

But there is a limitation.

There is a limitation by doing it via Shopify and it relates to email.

Shopify doesn't have a full blown, proper professional email service, and for me at least, I think

that's not good.

And the reason being is that they have what's called an email forwarding service.

So in other words, somebody sends me an email to info at the dog doors dot com, which is going to

be my new brand.

It gets forwarded at this point to my personal email.

So I receive the email, but then when I reply I'm replying on Tim Sharp at E commerce mindset and for

me that's a problem.

Put yourself in that position.

You've been communicating with somebody on a professional level and then you start to get emails from

them from their own personal email.

It just doesn't feel good.

You know, I've talked so much in this course about building up trust with your customers, being such

an important part of building any business.

And for me, it's a lost opportunity.

It feels bad, it feels like you've lost a certain amount of trust.

So for this reason, I prefer not to buy my domain through Shopify, and I prefer to do it in the alternative

way, which I'm going to show you in a minute.

Now, before I do show you that, I want to emphasize you can buy your domain through Shopify.

I do not want to push you in either direction.

As I said just a few minutes ago, I'm simply giving you the information so that you can make your own

decision.

So now you've seen how to do it with Shopify.

You understand the limitations.

Please go ahead and do it like this if you want.
