Rick Ness

is a man with a plan,

determined to bring in
1,000 ounces of gold he needs

to stay in the game.

I do have
a lot on the table this year.

Right now, I'm trying to build
my business back up after
taking a year off.

One way or another,
I'm gonna
make it work.

For two months,
Rick has sluiced
stockpile paydirt,

banking 140 ounces.

Now that it's gone,

he's making a quick move
to get back on the gold.

It is a big day, you know,
we're finished running
the stockpile,

we finished running
Monster Red for a while.

We're moving upstream
to where Rocky's set up,

you know, we're doing
a 500-yard test on
the Bacon Strip.

Uh, the ground seems
good enough to mine,

so we're on our way down there
to mine it.

Rick's first major
decision of this season

is to pivot
to the 1.4 acre Bacon Strip,

where last week's test run

yielded almost an ounce
per 100 yards,

sweetening the pot.

The cut was stripped down
to pay two years ago

and is ready to sluice.

Rick's hoping it will deliver
a quick 300-ounce score

and keep his comeback dream...

alive.

Told the guys, I said,
I only want to be down one day

'cause we got
a 1,000-ounces to hit.

And we've got a small crew.

You know, minimal equipment,
I can't afford anything
to break on this move.

Working on
the slimmest of margins,

Rick can't even
afford to truck the pay
to his main plant,

Monster Red.

So, he's moving
his entire operation
to his old wash plant, Rocky.

This is a lot to do.
We need to get pump
down there.

We need to get the generator
down there.

Get all my people,
all my machines down there.

And we need to get
set up quick

'cause I don't wanna lose
more than a day of sluicing.

The pump is gonna
power little Rocky and uh,

we're gonna start mining
up there,

hopefully, starting
this afternoon.

Every minute that we're down,

we're losing money, so...

we just wanna get this all
this stuff up there as soon
as possible,

so we can start putting gold
in the box.

To get Rocky
up and running,

Rick's crew need to transport
their only pump
and a generator

from Monster Red,
a mile down the valley,

to the smaller plant.

So, now, we're just
disconnecting this suction
line from the pump.

This here, is a lot of weight.

It can hurt
any of us easily.

Just gonna get it off,

get it on its way.

This machine
should be able to lift it,
but it's a heavy pump.

It's about 15,000 pounds dry
and it's got a full tank
of fuel right now.

The bad thing is we don't have
a whole lot of room down here,

so we're gonna have
to swing it over the river.

to make it in one piece,
or we're gonna be in trouble.

After spending
millions to buy

the Dominion Creek Claims,

Parker Schnabel is deep
in the hole.

We're on the hook
for a lot more payments.

That's $15 million total.

Then, we have operating cost
on top of that

and a lot of equipment repairs
on top of that.

So, we definitely have
a lot of revenue that needs
to come in

and a lot of gold that needs
to come in.

Parker's light
at the end of the tunnel

is a potential $160 million
payday at Dominion.

But to get there,

he needs to find a way
to keep the operation running
long enough

to find the big gold.

After sluicing a small section
of Dominion last week,

he's back to stripping

with no gold coming in.

I'm definitely a bit
stressed out about it all.

in over our head.

plant boss, Tyson Lee,

with a Herculean task,

in 24 hours.

Last time,
I had Alec helping,
Liam helping and I guess

they're hung up at Dominion.

Looks like Evan and I
are gonna be stuck
moving Slucifer.

To get it done,

Tyson teams up with
operator, Evan Kurtz,

who's never moved
a wash plant.

Can't wait to get up
and going again,

so we gotta get a move on.

Slinging up

these things

to Slucifer

and Tyson's gonna pull
her down to the new pad

with the 750.

Yeah, wash plant moves

getting to be fewer and fewer
people around to help
do them, so...

One piece at a time,
we're ready to drag
the plant over.

Tyson's plan,

use the 750 excavator to pull
Slucifer 300 yards
to the bottom

of its new wash plant pad.

Then, drag the 45-ton plant
up the 60-foot pad

using the excavator's bucket
to anchor,

and then, lever each step
up the 25-degree slope

until it reaches
its final position

at the top.

There's a hole

I've never moved
a wash plant with

these two guys here before,

so, you know,
it's just a lot of...

lot of moving parts
and a lot of things
I gotta keep my eyes on

and a lot they gotta
keep their eyes on.

when we're doing this,
we wanna make sure the plant

So, we have one chance

Then, we'll drag it up

of the Klondike, Tony Beets,

is in crisis.

Over a third of the way
through his season,

he's only fired up
one wash plant,

a shaker deck
at his Indian River Claim,

which, so far, has delivered
barely 60 ounces,

just one percent
of his 6,000 ounce goal.

But the trommel
Tony wants to get running,

is located
at his Paradise Hill claim,

40 miles away.

Before he leaves
the Indian river

to work on the trommel,

Tony puts one of the few
he trusts in charge.

after putting Monica
in charge at Indian River,

the shaker deck conveyor belt
has ground to a halt

causing a pile up of paydirt,

shutting down the Beets'
only running wash plant.

I don't know why it stopped,
It was doing so well.

to get the plant
back up and running.

Well, I've already
got people getting shovels.
We'll get it shoveled off.

The shaker deck's
first belt conveyor

feeds a second,
longer conveyor,

that delivers paydirt
to the plant.

The second belt is powered
by a drive wheel at its base

where one of the metal rods
on the barrel of the wheel
has come loose,

causing it to jam

and paydirt to pile up between
the two conveyors.

Once Monica removes the rod,

all she has to do
is clear the dirt

and fire back up.

Cut the power!

Shut it all off.

And so,

Evan's going
to try to remove it.

The problem.

Oh, that's exciting.

and so, we had to up.

to shoveling,

Obviously, it sucks when,

So close to being able to run
through this fricking plant
full time, you know,

fricking load it up with some
gold and walk.

The crew have been
stockpiling pay

while the generator
drained out.

There's always gonna
be water there,

so we just put a big pile
of coarse rocks there.

'Cause it's gonna keep filling
with water, but if it's rock,
it'll go onto the rock.

So, we're going to take
a bunch of tailings,
nice clean rocks,

so that any water
that does go through here
can still freely flow,

but we'll be able
to build it up

so that our generator
is up above the water
instead of in it.

To make it safe
from further flooding,

Rick wants to build a pad
from coarse tailings

and lift the generator
on to higher, drier ground.

Now, grab some
clean, clean rock

and put it in the bucket
back in here.

Then, we'll be free to put
the generator on top
of that.

Yeah, sounds good.

So, we fired up the wash plant
and we had

way too much water pressure.

Our generator was getting

submerged by water.

So, we had to shut down,
we're just taking
care of that.

We're gonna get the generator
sitting a bit higher.

Push it back this way
a little bit,

and then, we'll set
the generator on there.

Flatten it out.

It's a thing of beauty.
We're ready to put
the generator back in.

Get that hooked up
and everything to get
the show on the road.

Now, we're gonna disconnect
this loader,

have the wires hook back up
and fricking

run it.

After laying
two tons of coarse tailings,

the generator is on higher,
drier ground.

And with the pump's pressure
settings now calibrated
for Rocky,

Rick is finally ready
to fire up.
