So now that we've taken a look
at a lot of the kind of big picture stuff

when it comes to setting up your color
grade, it's to poke around,

resolve a little bit.

We want to give you an opportunity here
to just kind of get your hands dirty

and actually kind of start
playing with some footage.

It's really hard

to understand what you don't know
kind of until you really jump into things.

So I'm going to give you
a little challenge

to go through and adjust
some of these shots, just knowing

whatever you know about resolve now,

because in the coming chapters,

we're going to get pretty detailed
when it comes to the different controls,

the different adjustments
that we can make.

But I think this kind of exercise
will be really helpful to kind of cement

some things into your memory
and also help you realize

some areas that you might need
a little bit of work on.

So in the upper left
hand corner of the color page,

make sure to open your media pool

and we're going to go to the section
that says Homework right here.

And there are two timelines,
homework and homework cases, grade,

double, click on homework.

And that will

open up this little timeline
with three shots in it.

And in a later chapter,
I'm going to go through and adjust these

and I'll save that here in the cases
grade version.

But for now, just open up
the homework timeline.

We'll just close our media pool here,
click through the shots

and start messing
with some of these controls.

Think about what you don't like about
a shot and how you might try and fix it.

If you think a shot is too dark,
what of these controls

helps kind of get you closer
to where you need to be.

What makes things lighter or darker?

What controls the colors and how?

How intense they are?

If you have opened the color page before,
just use whatever knowledge you have

to try and make these images look nice
and there's no wrong way to do this.

This is kind of like a pretest.

Get in here
and start messing with the footage.

And here are a couple challenges on shot.

One, let's change this pink color.

You can change it to a different color.

You can make it stronger or weaker
however you want to do it.

She's pink right now.

Let's try and make her a different color

this second shot.

Let's try and make this feel really harsh.

So make the dark parts really dark
and the light parts are really light.

So if you can make
this look really punchy on this shot,

let's make it feel like it's cold
or like it's nighttime.

See if you can turn things
a little bit more blue.

Those are the challenges
for your homework.

I really recommend pausing here
and giving this your best shot

before you move on to other chapters.

Again, if you're one of those people
that's kind of afraid of messing up,

please don't be afraid.

This is all a learning experience
and it's going to be really exciting to

look at what you make now versus
what you make after you go through

the next few lessons.
