your background.

Hmm. I was born and raised
in Puget Sound.

Majored in behavioral sciences
and biology.

Mm-hmm.

Uh, started writing for the
student paper in grad school

and discovered I had
a lot to say

about human behavior
and romance and love.

So here I am doing my thing.

Yeah, yeah, doing it all.

Giving me everything
that's in your bio that I read.

Mm. So you read my bio.

I tend to.

Um, I want to know about
your philosophy. Come on.

Well it's all data driven.

But what does your data then say
about passion?

Passion is just a,
a minor factor.

So how do you plan
a romantic date?

Oh, well it should be casual
and daytime

with a focus on conversation.

include something sweet

like chocolate.

And why is that?

the neurotransmitters

that make us feel attractive.

a thing about birds.

They are tiny dinosaurs
that sleep with their eyes open.

They give me the creeps.

But I dated a woman once

She got a new job.

My point is, is that
was unexpected.

Had she not moved I would've
stayed with her,

even with the birds.

It doesn't have anything to do

which can exist

it looks like it doesn't.

I decided I'm going to be
the focus of my own research,

collecting and recording
emotional data

directly from the source.

in the middle of it all.

so I could spend the day
out there with Tyler.

it's a real departure
from your previous books.

Well, I wanted to do something
different this time around,

so instead of interviewing
other people

I decided to make myself
the subject.

What do you mean exactly?

I made myself, my feelings
and my experiences with dating,

the focus of my research.

And let me tell you
it was definitely

a different experience writing
about yourself.

And?

What did you find?

Well...

I guess you just have to read
the book to find out.

the bulk of our time tonight
