What is this fame?
It is the devil's game.

You run to succeed and then
you let the vultures feed.

But the way that cinema is made
is anything but a fairy-tale.

NEWSREADER: The Bollywood actress
Jiah Khan has been found dead

at her apartment
in the Indian city of Mumbai.

Police told the BBC
that the actress' mother

found her dead at her home.

The movie star grew up in London.

Imagine a girl from London
being thrown into Bollywood...

..and navigating the system.

When Sooraj started dating Jiah,

he was in the making of
becoming the star.

She was his trophy girlfriend.

Why do they see just those five
months of me being her boyfriend?

I'm not the person who's driven her
to do what she's done.

There was some hot argument going on
between the two of them.

As a mother, she's trying every day
to get her daughter justice.

I'm not scared.
My war has not even begun.

This was badly investigated
and serious mistakes have been made.

If we are to get justice,
the truth needs to come out.

It was not me.

There's a bigger picture.

Jiah will never take her own life.

You need a strong character
to deal with Bollywood.

3rd June 2013.

It was her sister's birthday coming,

so we were going shopping
for jewellery.

And Jiah had this in mind that
she has got to give something

very special to her sister.

By the time we reached home,
it was about 6:30 or so,

I rested a little and then I asked
her, "What do you want to eat?"

"Right now, I don't want anything."

My daughter, Kavita, was arriving
after midnight the same night.

We were messaging constantly.

In fact, we were saying, you know,
"So excited to see you".

Messaged just before
I boarded the plane,

being like, "OK, I'm boarding now,
see you on the other side,"

sending loads of emojis,
which we loved doing also.

And then, erm...
Yeah, she was so excited.

She even...
I mean, I found out later

that she was getting
my birthday present that day.

I said, "Who's going to go and pick
up Kavi tonight at the airport?"

And she was telling me, "OK, I'm
going to go. Don't worry about it."

Jiah's phone rang...

..so she says,
"Oh, Mummy, just hold on."

So I said, "OK."

God knows who it must be.

Nothing that I should know.

And then Jiah came back
and she said, "OK, Mummy, let's go,"

so we went out.

9:15, we both walk out.

So, I take a rickshaw
to go to Anju's place,

and Jiah walks opposite
because her friend Faizan

lives right across the road.

About 9:27, I send a message,
"I love you."

And she replies me back after that
one second, "I love you too, Mummy."

After that, I was sitting there.
Manu was there.

We were talking, chilling.

It was an open house.

Somewhere around 11-ish, I told
Anju, you know, "I've got to go."

So within two minutes,
the rickshaw came,

so I got up and I walked out.

I reached my gate
and walked towards my apartment.

I opened the door and I walk in.

All the lights are on -
the kitchen lights are on,

the passage lights are on.
It was lit up.

And we had shut the lights,
and now the lights were on,

so obviously my daughter is in.

I, in fact, called her name.

I see all the doors are shut.

And we have a habit -
we don't shut doors in the house.

So I go straight into her bedroom
to talk to her.

But she's not there, so I thought,
"She's in the bathroom,"

so I open the bathroom door.
It was not locked.

This bathroom is in the centre of
two bedrooms

and both bedrooms have got access.

So I walk in and Jiah's not there,

and all the lights in the bathroom
are also on,

so I said, "Where is she?"

I slide open the door
of the other room, and...

SHE SIGHS

And I took my phone,
called Anju Mahendru.

SOBS: I told the police,
"Please come, my baby's gone!"

Anju went through and looked.

Anju said, "Oh, my God!"
They called the doctor.

The doctor arrived.
It was a family doctor.

He knew Jiah from childhood.

He opened her eyes,
checked the retinas,

checked her pulse and said...

.."She's gone. She's no more."

I had just come out of uni.

And I was at the bus stop,
waiting to go home,

and I had gotten a missed call
from an Indian number.

And then it called again,
so I picked up.

And it was my mother and
she was crying and sort of howling.

She was like, you know,
"She's gone, she's gone."

"She's gone from this world" -
she said something like that -

and I suddenly got angry.

I was like, "Why on earth
are you saying that?"

I remember when I landed, I received
a voicemail from a family friend,

saying, "Hi, Kavita. I'm so sorry
to hear about your sister.

"Let me know if there's
anything you can do,

or if you need any help
with anything,"

and I had no idea
what she was talking about.

And then my mum's friend, Anju,
at the time, she...

She took the phone
and she said to me...

She said to me that...

She said to me that
she had hung herself.

My legs just went to jelly
and I just collapsed.

I was just really confused.

I can't understand
why she would do that.

And I just don't think she would
do that, if I was in the flight,

two hours before landing,

to decide that
she wanted to kill herself.

Sorry?

I was working late in the office.
It was around 12:10, 12:15.

I was just about to leave
when I got a call on my mobile.

They said, "Jiah Khan has
committed suicide."

"Who is this Jiah Khan,

"the same Jiah Khan who was opposite
Aamir Khan in Ghajini,

"opposite Mr Bachchan in Nishabd?"

If she's dead, Jiah Khan,
it's a big story.

India is a country which is mad
about celebrities.

That is the fact.

When offence involves celebrity
as a victim or an offender,

everybody gets excited.

NEWSREADER: Breaking news coming in.

Actor Jiah Khan
has committed suicide,

this at her Juhu residence.

Her dead body is now
at Cooper Hospital.

The police are on the spot

and the body has now been sent
for postmortem.

HORN HONKS

RABIA: A few other police officers
came and took my daughter's body.

The whole apartment
was full of people.

I reached the house and my mum's
just blabbering.

Like, she's just saying
all this stuff,

and I'm like, "Mum, it can't be
true. Like, what's happening?"

And she's like, "It's true.
It's true." She's in shock.

Early in the morning, we get told
we need to go for the postmortem,

so I don't even sleep. I'm just
waiting and, as soon as we can -

eight o'clock in the morning,
when it opens - we go.

And up until this point,
I've not seen my sister

and I don't believe
anybody saying anything.

I think she's still alive.

And then we go,
we see her body in the morgue.

It's... Yeah, and she's just, like,
on her own in this really cold room.

And it was really weird -
cos I see her,

and it's her,
it looks like her, but..

..it's not her. Like, I don't...

I just thought
she was still going to wake up,

even though this was, like,
after the postmortem.

Like, obviously that's
never going to happen.

I know how strong my sister was

and how she's gone through
so much before,

dealing with terrible types
of people,

and now suddenly she's going to
decide to do it

before two of her really important
family members

are going to come in the house any
second? It didn't make sense to me.

It's happened so suddenly,
without any alarm,

without any inclination,
without any signs.

My child was absolutely fine
an hour ago.

NEWSREADER: We woke up this morning
to some tragic news

of the suicide of actor Jiah Khan.

Where have investigations reached
at this point?

REPORTER: Well, so far, of course,
the police has been,

you know, on this investigation
from last night.

It's said they have been examining
every single lead. You know...

For me, when I heard of the fact
that Jiah Khan,

a young actor who's doing well...

..I'm wondering, "Why would an actor
like that commit suicide?",

in the absence of a suicide note.

Then, all your theories
start coming in,

everybody jumps to
their own conclusion,

and the collective cacophony of
those voices end up being the truth.

KARISHMA: There is still
an overarching question

of how she died.

If we are to get justice,
then the truth needs to come out.

We were approached by the Khan
family with a view to establishing

what really happened on that night.

I don't want to be overly critical,
but this was badly investigated

and serious mistakes have been made.

The investigation was compromised
from those first critical minutes

and hours after Jiah's death.

Regardless of how
the incident is called in,

regardless of how the facts
may present themselves initially,

you would expect an investigator
to approach that scene

as a crime scene.

And from that moment on,
they seemed to proceed on the basis

that it was a closed case,
it was a suicide.

So many things were missed,

and that includes the tracksuit
being worn by Jiah

25 minutes before she died.

That tracksuit
has never been seen again.

Later, when we saw the CCTV,
it occurred to us,

"Wait a second. What happened
to the clothes she was wearing?"

The tracksuit is completely missing.
Nobody has ever found it.

When we asked the police, they said,
"You must have hidden it."

Well, even if you think that,

don't you think
you should investigate it?

Like, that's a crucial
piece of evidence,

the last piece of item she was found
wearing 15 minutes before she dies,

and it's nowhere to be found?

I was asked to go down to the police
station and try to unlock

my sister's phone cos I would
probably know the password.

I get there, and then we get
given the phone,

and I just literally slide up
and the phone is unlocked.

There was no password
and the phone is empty.

There's no messages, no pictures.

And, knowing my sister,
there would definitely be pictures.

And I'm like, "What do you want me
to unlock? This isn't even locked."

"How is it unlocked?
How is there nothing on it?"

They didn't explain anything.

Most importantly with the phone,
there should have been fingerprints

of one or two persons on the phone,
but then it turned out later

in the report from the lab
that there were no fingerprints.

If you're a mother,
you will know, right?

And I know that the truth
has yet not surfaced.

I mean, all the truth.

Everybody is entitled to a fair
and impartial investigation,

and this matter has been going on
for Jiah Khan's family

since Jiah's death in 2013.

It's vital that the victims
have access to justice

in a timely fashion.

When certain people look at my mum,

they think she's just
causing trouble,

but then other people
look at my mum and think

she's this strong woman fighting
the whole justice system on her own.

Not scared of the police or anybody,
she's just doing it.

This is her purpose. And she's...
She's got so much strength.

RABIA: Jiah will never
take her own life.

You need a strong character
to deal with Bollywood.

That strength comes from the family.

She had so much love in the family.

She was the light of our house.

and we came to London in late 1989.

I always called her Babu, or Baby.

between my sister and I,

So in Hindi, that means sort of

but in an affectionate way.

So we actually never used to
call her Jiah or Nafisa.

I was five years younger than Jiah.

Because she was my big sister,
me and Karishma used to, like,

follow everything that she did.
We just thought she knew everything.

And she was like... We thought
she was way older than she was.

She loved Bollywood
from a very young age.

We're from Mumbai.

Mumbai IS Bollywood.

Even though we grew up in London,
we grew up watching Bollywood films.

We were her experiment.
We'd be the backup dancers.

She'd love to do our make-up and
our clothes and tell us what to do.

She'd direct us...

..and play Bollywood.

and really look out for each other.

It was so fun growing up when I look
back at it, because it was just

with Rabia and three children.

He had to sort of fit into us,
rather than the other way around.

Jiah was absolutely gorgeous,
she was absolutely stunning.

She didn't purposely grab attention,
she just did it naturally.

She did have that kind of effect
where she walked into a room

and everybody would notice.

She was confident in herself,
but I don't think she realised

just how beautiful she was.

She looked up to my mother
as well, who is an actress,

and she wanted to be pretty
and look the part.

I'm not shy!

My sister was quite in awe
of my mum, I think, and her acting

career and obviously having a mum
as an actress, was a good mentor

to get you ready for the industry.

Bollywood films provide,
like, an escape.

So it's fantasy.

I was very worried when Nafisa
first told me, "Mummy, I want

"to, I want to be a film actor."

I was very, very worried because,
you know, it's not talented based.

It is...

And that's when I had a one-to-one
conversation with her.

And I said, Beti,
you have to understand

what this industry is all about.

I'm sure she had her fears,
but from what I saw,

she was very supportive,

but she wanted her
to do it the right way.

RABIA: More anger, more anger.

RABIA: Very, very bad.

We were so young and we just wanted
to play, but there'd be hours

and hours of practice monologues
and looks to give and angles.

And it was quite, yes, quite,
quite intense.

But they loved it.

RABIA: The routine?

Shall we try another routine?

She used to do performances
for my mum and her friends.

So she'd, like, dress up and my mum
would have these dinner parties

and then Jiah would come and, like,
dance to, like, an Indian song.

She loved to be performing
and singing. She got her first film

through a contact of my mother's.

Interest started developing
into my child.

But, from my side, I think she's
studying and she still needs...

..she's only 16.

MAN: OK, yah.

My mother was very protective
because she was so young.

At the time, I saw her as an adult,

you know, she was my older sister,
I looked up to her.

She seemed,
she seemed like an adult.

But now I look back
and I think she was just 16,

I think it was about 16.

RABIA: She has got to take it
serious.

There was a lot of sacrifices,
a lot of people at that age

were with their friends
and going out and doing that,

but she was working those Friday
nights where she was practising

monologues in front of the camera.

I never recall her being nervous,
but I think that was also a benefit

of all the, you know, how much
training we did and she was

so natural in front of the camera.

from London. New? New.New, yes.

JIAH: For my A-levels
I did literature,

huge Shakespeare fan.

And then I went on to Strasberg

in New York and we did acting,
of course we did Shakespeare.

We did script analysis.

It was a full round course.

I love music.

I've been dancing
from such a young age.

And then I got the opportunity to
do a film in India.

It was intelligent cinema.
The name of the film was Nishabd.

And it was basically
a sort of adaptation of Lolita.

And my co-star was a very, very,
very big Indian superstar.

So... I'm in love with Jiah...it
was quite a controversial subject.

Do you love your wife? Yes.

This film was primarily based
around this female character,

which you don't get
in Indian cinema.

So as a first film, to be able

to carry a film on your shoulders,

as a young actress,
was just what compelled me to do it.

The appearance, I could tell
that she did most of her dressing.

The hair and everything,
that was totally my sister.

When Nishabd got released,
my daughter's film,

it was some other level.

It was some other level.

I was happy in a way,
I was remembering, in fact,

reminiscing my time
in my first film,

seeing myself in that big poster.

I saw her posters on every lamppost,
every wall.

I really felt God has blessed her.

It was her wish.

First time when I saw Jiah,

some person I know, kind of,

"There's this girl from UK.
She would like to meet you.

"Can you just spare some time?"

It was Ram Gopal Varma.
We loved his films.

We used to watch them a lot
growing up.

I don't remember exactly
how she got the role.

We're such actresses.

Probably through, you know, contacts

and just knowing people in the bars
in India.

When she entered my office,
I thought there was something

very striking. She was very
unconventional looking.

And you, you won't forget her face
the moment you see her.

It was the biggest first break
you could ask for.

It was Amitabh Bachchan, you know,

you don't get bigger than
Amitabh Bachchan.

Mr Amitabh Bachchan, the legend,
the king of Bollywood.

Not king, actually -
emperor, I would say.

To make the first movie
with Amitabh Bachchan,

it's like going to Hollywood
and you make your first movie

with Tom Cruise.

Um, it was amazing.

Ram Gopal Varma
is known to cast people who

apparently he feels
that she fits the bill.

She fits the character.

He found some potential in this girl
and he decided to cast her.

So she called herself Jiah then.

And in fact, that very name
was her character

in that film as well.

Jiah! Jiah!

What are you doing?

First impression of Jiah

was exactly like how she was
in the film.

A free-spirited
and very open person.

The character was also
free-spirited.

There was a lot of hype about her.

You know, she really

came storming onto the scene
in Bollywood.

very, very bad thoughts.

The film had such a buzz
and a star of this new girl

from England.

and they were looking for

with this amazing actor

who has short-term memory loss.

And it's kind of a revenge story.

Aamir Khan is a legend.

You know, he's a performer.

Sunita, final year medical student.

She was this medical student.

Much younger than anybody on set.

She was really loving
and kind on set.

And she was very physical. She'd
come give you a hug in the morning,

pull your cheek, give you a kiss.

Just like, she seemed like somebody
out of college, you know,

like the friend
that you had in college

where you're constantly concerned,
like,

"Honey, you're going
to get in trouble for doing this."

It was a huge box-office success.

Ghajini was a mega success.

And after Ghajini came Housefull.

My latest movie is called Housefull.

It's the most commercial film
I've done out of the three.

It's a comedy.
When I was in Strasberg,

and I don't know whether it was
people laughing at me or with me,

but, you know, I made people laugh,

and I wanted
to try something like that.

I think it was definitely tough.

But she had a lot of fun.

And I think everyone on set
loved her.

So there were definitely, you know,

So that was her Bollywood journey

I would say it was colourful.

And then London was where
she could just be herself.

Can we talk about my personal life?
It's much more interesting.

Right. Is the famous Jiah Khan
single right now?

Um, yes, and I think we'll take
a short little break over there.

In 2009, after Housefull was done,
she came back.

2009, 2010, she stayed here.

End of 2011, she left.

Then 2012, September,
she meets Sooraj Pancholi.

Jiah met Sooraj Pancholi
when she was 24

and Sooraj Pancholi was 22.

She announced that
there is this guy

called Sooraj Pancholi,

who is actually a wannabe actor.

You know, we knew his father -
Aditya Pancholi.

And it's quite a small circle,
so we had known of them.

Sooraj Pancholi's father, Aditya
Pancholi, also was an actor.

He came in various films.

And his mother, Zarina Wahab,
is an actress,

also quite a well-known actress,
and has done many, many films.

So he is coming from that background

where his parents were
well-established as actors.

Obviously, they know everybody
in the industry.

He always had
a lot of women attention,

he's always had, and which guy
wouldn't want it at a young age?

So she met Sooraj, who was
this fun guy around the same age,

who was taking her out,

not just moving around in the old
kind of film crowd, you know.

She wanted people her level
and just to enjoy life.

When you're a star kid,

you're given VVIP treatment
because your father is a megastar,

and you're getting the perks,
being your father's son.

You get a lavish car.

Sooraj had a Jag at a young age,
you know,

while we were driving
some normal car.

So of course, those were things
that make you larger than life.

And he was wooing her, you know?

He was sending flowers
to the house every day.

There's this movie
which has come out, Ghajini.

Jiah didn't have a big role,
but that movie was a big hit.

So we all had seen her in it.
Of course, she was a diva.

And, you know, full of praises that
he's seen Nishabd ten times

and he's, you know,
he's a great fan of Jiah.

Jiah, she'd done a dance number
in the movie.

You would say
that she was, like, wow.

At 22, when you're dating a girl
at stunning as her,

you would be proud of it.

You've cracked it. I don't think
any other star kid in the past

at a young age
has got a girlfriend

who's an established actress
already.

I remember her sending me photos
and being like, "What do you think?

"You know, he's younger than me,
though."

They seemed happy together.

He always showered her
with attention.

I mean, I don't think anyone could
not shower with her attention.

She was a very pleasant person...

..to look at, even to be around,
and she was sweet.

He used to roam with her
with a lot of pride.

There used to be ten guys sitting

and Sooraj with his girlfriend,
Jiah, holding her hand.

They actually had a very cute
chemistry going on.

She used to take good care of him,
you know?

I used to see a lot of warmth
from her side

and she would pamper Sooraj,
so Sooraj loved it.

What else would you want?
Like, the most stunning girl,

a girl who's loving you.

I was happy for her
because she was excited.

I didn't think...that there's
something much deeper going on.

I remember the funeral. Erm...

They took her body away so quickly
and then all these photographers

came and started, like,
taking pictures of us.

I didn't know what was going on.
I just saw her going away

and I knew that was the last time
I was ever going to see her.

TV PRESENTER: Actress Jiah Khan,
who committed suicide on Monday,

June 3rd, was buried at a cemetery
in Mumbai on Wednesday, June 5th.

It was looking as
a very open-and-shut case for us,

but then the buzz started coming out

that perhaps Sooraj
has got something to do with it.

After the burial, I was going
through her cupboard -

obviously I was trying to find
everything that I could.

Inside a wallet...

..in her side drawer,
I found this letter.

I literally ran into the living room
and showed my sister, my mum,

and I was like, "Read this."

So Karishma started to read
and when we started to read,

we were discovering everything.

It doesn't have Sooraj's name
in it,

but it doesn't need to have
anybody's name in it.

We can tell from the things
that she's writing about.

She just keeps saying, you know,
"You hurt me."

And I said, well,
"We need to give it to the media.

"We need to give it to the media.
We need to give it the police."

He wasn't a nice guy.

There's more to the story.

TV PRESENTER: In an apparent
suicide note,

Jiah Khan wrote to her boyfriend,

"You never appreciated my love
and you kicked me in the face."

Things were out of control
when that suicide note came out.

Everybody had a copy of the letter.

A letter was found from Jiah's house
which said in detail

about her troubled relationship
with Sooraj.

It was a media trial after that.

People automatically thought
it was a suicide note

and any logical person would realise
that it wasn't,

because a suicide note,
you'd want it to be found.

The word suicide note came up from
police or somebody, I have no idea.

The panel were of the opinion that
this was not a classic suicide note.

It wasn't found at the scene,
it wasn't dated, it was not specific

in terms of Jiah Khan's desire
to kill herself.

She talks about being embarrassed
and hurt by his behaviour.

Police went on saying
that there was a break-up, OK,

so I said, "How did you come
to know?"

While talking to media, ACP Patil

said that prima facie
it is a suicide case.

He also added that yesterday
the starlet had thrown out a bouquet

on the day she committed suicide.

ACP Patil confirmed that
Aditya Pancholi's son, Sooraj,

made the last call to Jiah
at 10:53pm

and she committed suicide
between 10:53 to 11:22.

He further added that Sooraj would
be interrogated whenever required.

The police had a source
who had revealed

that Sooraj Pancholi had actually

ended the relationship with
Jiah Khan in the hours or days

before her death,
and that the bouquet of flowers

sent to her was, in fact,
a break-up bouquet.

So she said the building
has got the CCTV.

I said, "I don't know
about the CCTV."

We saw Jiah walking in.

And then we saw that bouquet,
the flowers.

So I said, "But there was no flowers
in the house."

So we go further
and we see Jiah coming down

after some time with that bouquet.

And asking the watchman, "OK, take
these flowers and go and throw it."

You can see it on CCTV -

there's no fear,
there is more assurance...

..that she'd had enough.

The Juhu police were very clear
that Rabia Khan should include this

in her witness statement,
and she did.

Latterly, the Juhu police sought to
rely upon that testimony

that Jiah Khan had been sent
a sort of, a break-up bouquet,

and it was on that basis
that she had taken her own life.

Sooraj Pancholi, in his statement,

references sending Jiah Khan
some flowers.

He makes no mention of the fact

that this was sort of
a break-up bouquet.

There's no evidence that would
suggest that this bouquet

was sent to Jiah because of the end
of the relationship.

There was a conversation
on that very night

which happened between Jiah
and Sooraj...

..and that conversation happened
through call, initially,

then SMS, then also through BBM.

Of course it would have given an
insight into who she was contacting,

what her messages were
in the very minutes before she died

and in the minutes
when she was dying.

These are critical pieces
of evidence.

And then, on the 10th,
the television was on

and suddenly there was a flash.

The police officers have gone
and arrested Sooraj Pancholi.

Breaking news coming in
on Jiah Khan's suicide.

Aditya Pancholi's son,
Sooraj Pancholi,

has been arrested in connection
with Jiah Khan's suicide.

Although Jiah Khan's six-page
suicide note doesn't mention

Sooraj Pancholi's name anywhere,

he has been arrested
in IPC Section 306,

which is abetment of suicide.

He will be presented
before the court.

Now, abetting a suicide means
pushing a person to do something

which she otherwise will not do -

in this present case,
ending her life.

And it carries a maximum punishment
of ten years.

Initially, when Sooraj was arrested,
I felt quite happy.

I was like, "OK, maybe there
might be some justice here."

The final report,
they conclude that

Sooraj Pancholi
drove Jiah Khan to suicide.

Now, their case today against Sooraj
as it stands

is that, during the course
of that relationship,

Sooraj made her go through
a lot of difficulties

and ultimately it reached a point

where Jiah thought that there is no
other way than to commit suicide.

We have arrested Mr Sooraj Pancholi
in a case under Section 306 IPC.

I remember her being concerned
about who his father was.

Aditya Pancholi doesn't have
a good reputation.

You know, he's a villain on camera,

but he's also somewhat known to be
a villain off-camera.

There have been multiple cases
filed against him

for including threatening people,

and that kind of a personality,

who is being looked upon as someone
who is a troublemaker.

HORN BLARES

And when his son is even
remotely linked to a case,

then there is this perception,

"Oh, he's the son
of Aditya Pancholi,

"so he might be involved
because it runs in the blood."

The moment this happened,
it was obvious that people

would be like,
"Like father, like son."

And those articles even came out.
They framed it that way, you know?

He's innocent.

Sooraj Pancholi was granted bail
on a surety of 50,000 rupees.

The High Court heard that...

Sooraj was charged
for abetment to suicide.

He got bail and,

if you carefully
read the bail order,

it is almost like acquittal.

There are influential people
involved in this matter.

A lot of people don't want that
information to come out in open.

If a postmortem had been able
conclusively to say

there are no indications
of foul play,

then that would have made it
much more easy

to categorise this as a suicide.

But, as we know from the evidence,

there were injuries which stood out

as indicators that
there might have been foul play

before the death.

The disturbing twist

to the sensational death controversy
surrounding Jiah Khan.

The latest developments indicate

that the actress's suicide
was staged.

Jiah's mother, Rabia,
has hired a forensic investigator -

Jason Payne James.

This is a distressing photo

because it's a picture of Jiah

after she's died,

but what it does show
quite dramatically

is this looped appearing,
this oval mark.

That's an odd-looking injury
and I don't know what's caused it.

If we look at this image,

this is one
more to the back of Jiah's neck.

What we can see is the extension
of the ligature marks

going beyond, it appears,
or certainly up to the midline,

of the neck at the back.

So there's the lower one,

which appears more horizontal,
and a higher one,

which disappears into the hair
under the nape of the neck.

Now, with a wide material,

the pressure on the neck is such

that it will be dispersed,
one would assume,

and so you would not expect
to see defined ligature marks

because the effect,
the resultant death,

is caused by general pressure
on the neck.

In this case, we have a problem

in that we have these quite deep
and well-defined ligature marks.

And there is also a mark
on the inner aspect of the left arm,

which appears to be a bruise,

and it's the type of bruise
that, although not diagnostic,

is typical of the type of bruise
we might see

if your arm has been grasped
or grabbed.

So you then have to look at
alternative possibilities

and the only reasonable
alternative possibility is,

could this have involved
somebody else?

We need to look at this again
and we need to find an explanation

about that oval mark on Jiah's neck,
the bruising on her arm.

All these things stand out,

pointing towards the fact
that this was not a suicide.

And at that point, there
should be a proper investigation

as to whether this was a murder.

This is not suicide -
this is a murder.

I'm just telling the court, please
find out who the murderer is

and acquit us from

this abetment to suicide
because, according to her,

this is not suicide at all.
That's our case.

My war has not even begun.

No, it has not even started.
